How we act

BACH operates through advocacy, policy advisory, and awareness campaigns, aiming to integrate CVH care across all levels of the Belgian healthcare system.

Past actions

Belgium: Launch event in November 2023 and two screening events in April 2024 and June 2025, engaging policymakers from across the political spectrum.

EU: Event in the European Parliament in March 2024, hosted by Belgian MEPs Hilde Vautmans and Pascal Arimont. The event report can be found here.

Step by step towards a cardiovascular action plan - 12 June 2025

On Thursday, 12 June, BACH & the Belgian Heart League held a successful cardiovascular screening event in the Chamber of Representatives. Together, we sent a strong and visible message to policymakers: Belgium urgently needs a national cardiovascular action plan. But what should such a plan look like? We think it should include the following essential focus areas:

  • Better collection and management of patient data, both for use in healthcare and for policy and research purposes.

  • Timely detection and referral

  • A care model with the patient at the centre

The energy in the room — with policymakers participating in screenings and walking 10 kilometres on a treadmill — clearly showed the political will for change. It’s momentum we must build on.
